This Peculiar Pattern Is Showing Up All Over the Universe

Kelvin-Helmholtz waves occur when there is a velocity difference across the interface between two fluids. This causes instability that results in a particular wave pattern seen commonly on Earth in water and air.

Now for the first time with new, better instruments, scientists have been able to detect these same wave patterns in the magnetosphere and plasmasphere.
